If you're a classic car enthusiast, then you already understand the need to protect certain materials from being disposed of in the landfill. In this case it's that special automobile you cherish. Used oil filters also fit into this category, but not because you cherish them, but because they need to be reclaimed for many reasons.

  • Reduce landfill usage
  • Reduce toxic waste from entering our fresh water supply
  • Reduce health problems that are associated with toxic substances
  • Improve plant and animal life
  • Recycle and reuse steel - Steel can be recycled over and over again
  • Recycle and reuse petroleum - Petroleum doesn't wear out, it simply needs to be cleaned
  • Create less costly materials for less costly products
  • Reduce dependency on foriegn materials
  • Increase jobs in our country

A used oil filter contains high grade steel and petroleum that can be used for other purposes when recycled. A growing number of communities throughout the country have curbside recycling services for used oil and oil filters. If your community has not yet implemented this kind of program and you would like to have one, contact your city officials and let them know about it.
